My old friend and ex colleague from Lamborghini Olari Vokk, the official Lamborghini and Lotus dealer in Tallinn, Estonia is as one of the first in the world test driving the new Lamborghini LP700-4 Aventador. Of course I had to call him in the middle of his test drive to find out more about the car.
Jens Sverdrup: Hey Olari, how is it going in Italy?
Olari Vokk: Im tired...
JS: What, not having fun?
OV: Yes, very fun, but the Aventador has worn me out. I have to start training, my body cant take much more!
JS: Aha! Tell me more?
OV: Sorry, have to go and drive the monster a bit more, call you back in 15 if my brain still works.
15 minutes passes
JS: Hello again Mr Vokk, got more time now? Please tell me a little bit of your first impression now that you have driven the car a few hours on track.
OV: Yes, where do I start, I am still in shock
JS: Just try
OV: The Aventador is a totally new chapter for Lamborghini, its a space ship compared with the previous model, a quantum leap sort of speak. I think it is a new benchmark for V12 supercars, and at a very decent price I might add. It still is very easily recognized as a Lamborghini with its aggressive angular design we all love, still very aggressive and archetypical Italian in all senses. Form before function, emotions before sensibility and a big dose of lunacy I absolutely love it!
The sound of the big V12 is very rich and fat down low, and it has the unmistakable Lamborghini V12 howl in the midrange, and on top rpms it absolutely screams like a cross between an old F1 engine and a caged animal. The car itself is very well balanced and safe handling, not ast all as intimidating as the old models. It actually feels quite light and frisky a first for a big Lamborghini. You can easily feel the stiffness in the construction, its razor sharp on turn in. The engine is very responsive, much more free revving than the old V12, and easier tractable on the throttle. More precise did I mention the sound?...eh, yes, I did, but ill do it once more...hair rising stuff...almost sexual
JS: How is the gear box now, the old one used to be a bit slow and crude?
OV: Ah. Also a quantum leap. Really fast, but still give you a kick in the back when you change gear. Lamborghini actually want the gear change to be a bit brutal in the CORSA mode, cause it adds to the drama. The gear shift feels much faster than a 430 Scuderia, so it really is fast. If you want to cruise around in standard mode its very civilized and refined.
JS: So in other words its quite good then?
OV: Yes. I want one so bad. Its got Pagani and Koenigsegg like performance at one third of the price; it's the supercar of the century with very reasonable
price positioning.
JS: How long do I have to wait to get one?
OV: Right now its 1,5 years waiting list, but if you are interested you should get in touch, and ill see what we can fix. We cant afford sponsoring you with 2 cars, so dont even start trying. Enjoy your Evora for at least a year before you even ask me
JS: ok what a shame, it actually was my next question.
OV: I know you to well, so I believe you. Crazy Norwegian.
JS: Are you coming to the Gran Turismo Polonia this year?
OV: Yes, of course. You have told me i don't really have a choice, and that it is the best event in the known universe, so i have to come!
JS: Ok, thank you. Have fun!
